2 Minute Drill: Reframe Patriots quarterback competition into quarterback combination

This is sportscenter 5 2 minute drill. The patriots are facing a multiple choice question at quarterback. Do they go with a cam Newton or be MAC jones? What if the right answer is c all the above. The patriots don’t have a clear cut quarterback solution right now, both Newton and jones have their strengths and come with question marks. So the answer could be collaborative quarterbacking, don’t call it quarterback by committee. This would fly in the face of NFL convention. Now the old saw goes that if you have two Q. B. S, you really don’t have one. But if there were ever a coach that wouldn’t care about bucking conventional wisdom or the second guessing that comes with tandem QB play, it would be Bill Belichick. It’s clear that Belichick is wedded to cam Newton from an emotional standpoint, he’s become Belichick’s proxy in the locker room, eagerly spouting the virtues of the patriot way Belichick was willing to overlook his feckless performance last year to give him another chance at QB. He stated that Newton is the team starting QB. But Belichick is also letting jones the first QB he’s ever used a first round pick on, pushed for the job in training camp. The rookie is the future. He’s already the more polished passer, but he’s also an NFL newbie with a steep learning curve and he’s bound to make some mistakes. Look, Newton looks improved, he’s more confident and confident as a passer. He’s also still a dynamic running threat that can keep defense is on their heels. So why not marry the skill sets of Newton and jones together instead of trying to force feed the job to one Underqualified or underwhelming QB? I asked Patriots offensive coordinator josh McDaniels about a two headed QB monster. He said, quote, I’ve never done that really. So we haven’t even got close to that conversation end quote, but he didn’t rule the idea out, which was telling to me frankly, coming off their first losing season in 20 years and with an offense that finished 27th and points, the Patriots are in no position to rule out anything that puts more points on the board. Belichick knows that to get back to the playoffs, he’s likely going to have to employ both quarterbacks this year. So why not plan on doing it in the same game? We should reframe the Patriots quarterback competition into a quarterback combination. It’s not camp or MAC. It could be camp and MAC. That’s the two minutes ago.
