Cavaliers guard Ricky Rubio out for season with torn ACL suffered vs. Pelicans [Video]

Ricky Rubio was having a tremendous showing at the Smoothie King Center on Tuesday.

But with just minutes to go, Rubio’s night ended prematurely after his left knee buckled beneath him — which sent the Cleveland Cavaliers point guard crumbling to the ground in pain. By Wednesday afternoon, his season was over.

Rubio tore his left ACL in the final stretch of the Cavaliers’ 108-104 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday, officially ending his season.

Rubio started driving past Devonte’ Graham through the lane late in the fourth quarter on Tuesday night when he slipped awkwardly just after crossing the free throw line. As he started to go down, Rubio’s left knee bent back awkwardly.

Rubio instantly grabbed his left knee once he was down on the court and started waving for help from the bench, clearly in pain.

Rubio was then helped off the court and back

Ricky Rubio’s injury lowers Cavs’ playoff ceiling, but defense, favorable schedule should help sustain success

Ricky Rubio knew something was wrong as soon as he went down. The Cleveland Cavaliers faithful held their collective breath late in the Cavs’ 108-104 road loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday, hoping that Rubio’s waving gesticulations with his right hand were to indicate that he was going to be OK, rather than a plea for attention from the Cleveland Cavaliers training staff. The severity of the injury revealed itself just minutes later as Rubio was helped to the locker room without putting any pressure on his left leg.

On Wednesday, the worst suspicions were confirmed when ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Rubio had suffered a torn ACL in his left knee on the play, and will miss the remainder of the season.

It’s a devastating blow for the Cavs, who at 20-14 are the league’s biggest surprise success story of the season. A 10-year NBA vet, Rubio

The NFL will fine Tom Brady the next time he throws a Surface tablet

On the Sunday Night Football stage, December 19th, Tom Brady and the Buccaneers were swept for the second consecutive regular season against the Saints — a frustrating shut-out loss that had Brady spiking a poor Microsoft Surface tablet on the sideline.

Now, per Brady on his Let’s Go podcast that aired Monday, the NFL is not going to let the Surface abuse continue. Should the seven-time Super Bowl champion throw the tablet again, he will be fined. “I did get warned from the NFL about that so… I won’t throw another Surface.” Brady said.

The co-host of the podcast, Jim Gray, joked that the whole incident was just good marketing for Microsoft’s tablet — which has been in use by NFL teams since 2014 and last year won a deal to have all 32 NFL teams use them. Gray asked Brady to clarify what exactly the warning from the
