An NCAA swimmer who finished one spot out of the finals in the 500 meter freestyle, which was won by Lia Thomas, has released a statement.

Virginia Tech swimmer Reka Gyorgy, a two-time ACC champion and All-American, finished in 17th in the qualifying of the 500 meter freestyle. Only the top 16 finishers made it to the finals.

Gyorgy has released a statement on the situation surrounding Lia Thomas, a transgender swimmer from Penn.

Thomas, who previously competed for the Penn men’s team, has transitioned and undergone hormone therapy. She won the 500 meter freestyle and competed in other events at the NCAA Championships this week.

Gyorgy is calling on the NCAA to take another look at the situation with Thomas and transgender athletes.

“Every event that transgender athletes participated in was one spot taken away from biological females throughout the meet,” she wrote.

An Olympic swimmer who competed against Penn transgender swimmer Lia Thomas has made her opinion on the matter extremely clear.

Thomas, a transgender swimmer for the Penn women’s team, won the 500 meter freestyle at the NCAA Championships this week.

Erica Sullivan, an Olympic silver medalist who came in third in the event, is speaking out in support of Thomas.

“All athletes — including transgender athletes — deserve to be respected and included, exactly as we are,” Sullivan wrote in an op-ed for Newsweek. “Throughout my life, swimming has enabled me to learn so much both in and out of the pool, and transgender athletes should not be excluded from this opportunity.”

Sullivan is a member of the LGBTQ+ community, as well.

“Lia Thomas has been unfairly targeted for just that — for being who she is, a transgender woman,” Sullivan wrote. “Like

With Auburn well on its way to a first-round win over Jacksonville State in the NCAA Tournament, Jabari Smith Jr. took one final moment to remind everyone why he was named an All-American.

The SEC Freshman of the Year produced a team-high 20 points, 14 rebounds and four assists on Friday to lead the second-seeded Tigers to an 80-61 win over the No. 15 seed Gamecocks. Walker Kessler recorded 13 points, 10 rebounds and nine blocks to finish shy of a triple-double.

Smith had perhaps the play of the tournament with just over one minute remaining. The scene unfolded when Smith collected the offensive rebound off of his own missed 3-pointer. Smith dribbled around a few defenders and unleashed fury on Brandon Huffman.

The monstrous jam by Smith immediately sent the Tigers’ bench into a frenzy. Players on the sideline had incredible reactions to the dunk and were left
