Tim Tebow addresses Jake Paul’s challenge, rumors about move to boxing

Tim Tebow was a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback at Florida. Then, he briefly played the position in the NFL for the Broncos. Then, he tried to pursue a baseball career with the Mets. Most recently, he attempted an NFL comeback as a tight end with the Jaguars. If nothing else, the guy deserves credit for chasing his dreams.

Unfortunately for the 34-year-old, being cut by Jacksonville brought an end to his time as a professional athlete. Wait a second — is that Jake Paul’s music?

The YouTuber-turned-boxer issued a challenge of sorts to Tebow after defeating former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley to move to 4-0 in his career.

“Aye (Tebow) I think it’s time for you to get into boxing,” Paul tweeted on Wednesday.

Before anyone could head to the tale of the tape, though, Tebow shut down the speculation about his interest in entering the ring during a “SportsCenter” segment with David Lloyd.

“I did pretend to be Rocky in ‘Lip Sync Battle,’ and I won that one, so I don’t know,” Tebow joked, referring to his victory on the Paramount Network show. “I don’t think there’s much of a shot for that. … I don’t think that’s where I’m probably going to head next.”

Tebow seems to be happy diving back into the world of television. He is already part of ESPN’s college football coverage, and he is set to battle Stephen A. Smith on “First Take” every Friday now that Max Kellerman has exited the program.

As for Paul, there’s a chance he will face Woodley in a rematch, but other opponents looking for big paydays could step up. Tommy Fury, the half-brother of heavyweight champ Tyson Fury, has called out Paul and claimed he would only need three minutes to end the fight. Conor McGregor is also lurking in the background, though he is still recovering from a broken leg suffered at UFC 264.

Whatever happens next with Paul, it’s pretty clear Tebow doesn’t want to be part of it.
