Ecuador and Brazil played one of the wilder, incident-filled matches of the 2022 South American World Cup qualifying campaign. The result finished 1-1, but it was a match that featured seven yellow cards, two red cards, two other red cards that were rescinded after video review, and two Ecuador penalties that were also wiped away on review.

The draw allows Brazil to remain undefeated atop the South American qualifying table, while Ecuador tacks on another valuable point as it seeks to clinch the third automatic ticket to the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Kyrie Irving’s return to the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night was quickly overshadowed by an unlikely foe: Indiana Pacers forward Lance Stephenson.

No, folks. It’s not 2014. The year is 2022 and Stephenson is showing out.

In his first home game with the Pacers since the 2017-18 season, Stephenson came off the bench six minutes into the first quarter to give his team a spark. He did that and then some, scoring 20 straight points to give Indiana a lead at the end of the quarter.

The highlight of his record-setting run came at the buzzer, when he drilled a sidestep three-pointer over Nets’ forward James Johnson to extend the Pacers’ lead to five.

The basketball world collectively held its breath on Sunday afternoon when Connecticut women’s basketball Paige Bueckers went down to the ground with an apparent non-contact injury.

Bueckers had to be helped off the floor with less than a minute to play in No. 2 UConn’s 73–54 win over No. 24 Notre Dame. As the sophomore guard tried to bring the ball up court with 38.5 seconds to play, her left leg buckled and nearly brought her all the way to the ground.

Bueckers was able to hobble her way up the court before falling in front of the Huskies bench in obvious pain. She was then helped off the floor and into the locker room by two of her teammates.

Taking down the No. 1-ranked, undefeated Georgia Bulldogs, No. 3 Alabama stunned the college football world with a 41-24 blowout win in today’s SEC Championship game.

“Upset” is not exactly a word in the Crimson Tide’s vocabulary — except for today. As 6.5-point underdogs heading into the matchup, Nick Saban’s squad wasn’t favored for the first time in 92 straight contests.

Overcoming the odds, Alabama made relatively light work of a Georgia team that dominated through the entirety of the 2021 regular season.
