City of Springfield now owner of the Fieldhouse basketball-volleyball training facility

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The city of Springfield is now the proud owner of a south side multiple-court basketball and volleyball training facility known for hosting competitive leagues and tournaments.

The 46,000 square-foot Fieldhouse Sportscenter was built in 2013 near the intersection of Kansas Expressway and the James River Freeway. The privately-owned facility was never publicly put up for sale but the owners, wanting to spend more family time, approached the city earlier this year about buying them out.

On Monday night the city council voted 8-1 to purchase the property for $6 million, which is $2 million below the appraised value thanks to a discount offered by the owners.

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board will run the facility.

“We’re very excited about it all,” said Springfield-Greene Co. Park Board Director Bob Belote. “This is an incredible opportunity for the park system and I think our Springfield community at-large.”

Aaron Rodgers is back for another round of training camp with the Green Bay Packers, indicating he may stay with his longtime team after all.

After reports of the reigning NFL MVP wanting to leave Wisconsin, Rodgers, 37, was spotted walking into training camp on Tuesday, with the team tweeting out his arrival.

One day earlier, ESPN’s Adam Schefter had reported that Rodgers appeared to be making headway in contract negotiations with the Packers, where he’s played for his entire 16-year professional career. The agreement would include canceling the final year of his contract, making it more likely that the upcoming 2021 season will be his last in Green Bay.

Rodgers was selected by the Packers as the 24th overall pick in the 2005 draft, and has three years remaining on his contract after signing a four-year, $134 million extension in August 2018.

Will Aaron Rodgers report to Green Bay Packers training camp?

The future of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers remains an unknown, but the clock is ticking as a July 27 report date for training camp inches closer. Saturday morning on ESPN’s SportsCenter, senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler shared an update regarding whether or not Rodgers’ will show up when the Packers kick things off.

“Asking around the league and some people who talked to coaches and people in the Green Bay building, there’s no uniform feeling as to whether Rodgers will report,” Fowler said. “Some are hopeful that he’ll show up and others believe that it’s just going to bleed well into August and maybe even Week 1. And so, nobody truly knows what’s going to happen right now except Aaron Rodgers.

“The only clearcut answer we have is that the Packers have made clear, publicly and privately, that they’re not dealing Aaron Rodgers.

Expect Houston to open training camp, season, with Westbrook and Harden on roster

The Houston Rockets have been exploring options for trading All-Star guard and former MVP Russell Westbrook, who has reportedly asked out of Houston. There also has been some reported kicking of the tires of a James Harden trade to his preferred destination of Brooklyn, although that has been more player-driven (Harden’s and Kevin Durant‘s camps) than by the teams.

In both cases, there is little traction on a deal.

Which means expect Harden and Westbrook in the Rockets training camp when it opens next week, something Adrian Wojnarowski talked about on SportsCenter recently.

“They have not engaged on James Harden in trade talks. Russell Westbrook, they have. That’s not an easy trade to make. I think for the Rockets, getting back into training camp and starting the season is probably a more likely scenario than Westbrook moving.”

Don’t be surprised to see Harden and Westbrook as Rockets’
