Heat remain in Eastern Conference’s top tier, battled injuries and absences with great team depth

The Heat dazzled the NBA world by making an improbable run to the NBA Finals during the bubble season of 2020 as the fifth seed but last season, after finishing sixth, Miami crashed out of the playoffs, swept by the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round.

The toll of two seasons played in a condensed period of time took its toll on the Heat, but Miami entered this season healthy and full of hope.

Unfortunately, season 2021-22 has provided its challenges as well.

Tyler Herro has elevated his game and is the clear Sixth Man of the Year favorite, but the Heat’s

Carson-Newman basketball player makes SportsCenter Top 10

Dyer’s spectacular play came in at number 10 on ESPN SportsCenter’s top play countdown.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — A play made by Carson-Newman basketball player Ren Dyer made ESPN SportsCenter’s top 10 for a play he made on Monday night.

In the Eagles’ win against Coker, Dyer inbounded the ball off a defender’s back and dunked it. The play drew an excited reaction from Carson-Newman’s bench.

“It was a good moment, it definitely was,” Dyer told WBIR on Tuesday.

He said he woke up Tuesday morning to a text from a friend telling him he made it and then many other messages came flooding in of the national recognition.

Dyer said this was kind of a redemption moment for a dunk that he missed last year where he almost put an opposing player on a poster. He said that for sure would have been a SportsCenter TOP 10 moment too.

The Panther City Lacrosse Club is still searching for the franchise’s first win, but the team got its first Top Play on ESPN’s SportsCenter.

Playing its first game following a scheduled three-week break, Panther City faced a high-scoring San Diego Seals offense at Pechanga Arena Saturday night. Both teams’ regular goalies were scratches due to COVID-19 protocols, and the result was a high-scoring 15-12 Seals’ victory.

The loss leaves Panther City at 0-4, and just one of two National Lacrosse League (NLL) teams still searching for their first win. But the Fort Worth-based club got a victory, of sorts, when the team’s leading scorer found the back of the net

Rockford sophomore’s game-winner makes ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays of the Day

Rockford sophomore Andrew Landis had trouble sleeping Tuesday night.

Who could blame him? It’s not every night your game-winning shot makes ESPN’s SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays of the Day.

Landis buried a halfcourt shot as time expired in overtime, giving Rockford a 54-51 victory over Grand Rapids Union at home. ESPN ranked Landis’ buzzer beater No. 2 overall.

“I was trying to go to sleep last night, but the adrenalin was pumping,” Landis said. “So I checked my phone in the middle of the night, and people on Instagram and Snap Chat were saying ‘You’re on SportsCenter.’ I saw it on video and then I watched it on ESPN when I got up in the morning.

“Everyone wants to be on SportsCenter’s Top 10. That’s when it hit me.”

Check out the winning basket in the video provided by Amanda Currie:
