Many of us went into Monday night amped to watch a duel between the top-two MVP candidates and two best big men in the game, Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokić.

But even with a couple of solid performances from each man and a game that went down to the wire, there weren’t a ton of memorable head-to-head moments. Nothing fundamentally changed about the race for the award, either, as a man named Bones stole the show and the Nuggets stormed back late to beat the Sixers in Philly. (My coworker Chris Mannix was there and documented what turned out to be one of the most entertaining games all year.)

Ironically, though, it was the league’s third-best center, Karl-Anthony Towns, who thrived most Monday, dropping a career-best and NBA-season-high 60 points in San Antonio.

Karl-Anthony Towns had a historic performance in the Minnesota Timberwolves’ 149-139 win over the San Antonio Spurs at AT&T Center on Monday night.

The 26-year-old scored a franchise-record 60 points in the win, along with 17 rebounds and three assists to help the Timberwolves improve to 40-30 on the season, though Minnesota remains seventh in the Western Conference.

Towns also holds Minnesota’s franchise record for the most 40-point games.

Lakers star Anthony Davis out at least 1 month with MCL sprain from Timberwolves loss [Video]

Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis will be out for at least a month after suffering an MCL sprain in his left knee, the team said Saturday.

Davis left Friday night’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the third quarter after his knee was rolled up on by Jaden McDaniels — which sent the two to the court while Davis grabbed his leg in pain.

He slowly walked off the court and into the tunnel toward the locker room after standing up, but collapsed in pain in the tunnel.

He finished with nine points and one rebound in 20 minutes in the Lakers’ 110-92 loss at the Target Center.

Davis underwent an MRI in Chicago on Saturday — ahead of the Lakers’ game against the Bulls on Sunday — which revealed the MCL sprain.

With his four-week timeline, Davis will likely miss at least 14 games. The Lakers are set

He Only Had 9 Fingers, But This Former Celtics First Round Pick Who Played For The Heat, Suns, Nets, Mavs, Pacers, Rockets And Timberwolves, May Have Been The Best Dunker Ever

Many people believe that Vince Carter, Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins are probably three of the best dunkers to ever step foot in the NBA.

However, one name that does not get brought up enough is Gerald Green.

Green played 12 seasons in the NBA with the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, Indiana Pacers, New Jersey Nets, Dallas Mavericks Minnesota, Timberwolves and Houston Rockets.

The one dunk that he has got the most attention for was the ridiculous alley-oop finish he had as a member of the Nets in 2012 (see Tweet below from SportsCenter).

While that dunk might be the best alley-oop finish ever in an NBA game, Green has had many more sensational dunks over the duration of his career.

Some of the reasons he did not get the same amount of attention was because he was never an All-Star or the best player on his team,
