Jacksonville State’s Hail Mary delivers latest FCS-FBS upset

Greg Seitz has been at Jacksonville State for nearly three decades, through a Division II national championship, conference titles and FCS playoff runs.

But the Gamecocks athletic director and longtime staffer has never seen anything quite as big as that walk-off Hail Mary to beat Florida State 20-17 last Saturday night.

“When you consider just where that program has been … I think that probably in my mind is probably the biggest win in Jacksonville State football history,” Seitz said.

It may not have even the biggest FCS win so far this season, however. It’s only mid-September and FCS teams have eight wins over FBS programs, most notably Jacksonville State’s upset and Montana’s opening 13-7 win over then-No. 20 Washington.

It’s the most such wins in a season since FCS teams pulled off nine of them in 2017. And they’re just getting started, perhaps benefitting from spring seasons that

Paul Finebaum Reacts To Ohio State’s Loss On Saturday

Paul Finebaum makes comments about roy Williams.

Paul Finebaum makes comments about roy Williams.

College football analyst Paul Finebaum usually jumps for joy when a non-SEC team with national title hopes loses a big game. But Ohio State’s loss to Oregon on Saturday has prompted a different reaction from him.

Appearing on SportsCenter, Finebaum called it “hard to explain” what happened to Ohio State in the game. He credited Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal and offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead with creating a brilliant gameplan.

As for Ohio State, he noted that their defense couldn’t get a stop and their offense couldn’t get enough going. Finebaum believes that Ohio State’s road to the College Football Playoff is now “very complicated.”

“It’s hard to explain what happened yesterday at The Horseshoe,” Finebaum said. “Especially when you consider that Oregon, coming into the game, without its two best players and maybe the best player in college football (in

The Oregon Ducks’ upset over the No. 3 Buckeyes dropped Ohio State’s season record to 1-1. While that’s the short-term result of this game, the longterm result could be the loss of some future potential recruits.

According to Oregon insider Jarrid Denney, Ducks’ safety Marko Vidackovic walked past a group of Ohio State recruits visiting Columbus for this afternoon’s big game. The young prospects reportedly looked “absolutely stunned.”

“You boys better come to Oregon,” Vidackovic reportedly said.

Ohio State has consistently topped Oregon in recruiting rankings in recent years.

The Buckeyes 2021 recruiting class featured seven five-star and 13 four-star recruits, landing them the No. 2 overall ranking, per 247Sports. The Ducks followed behind with zero five-star and 19 four-star recruits in the No. 6 position.

This coming year, Oregon is already starting to close that gap. With one five-star and nine four-stars
