Sixers’ Andre Drummond signing digs up his Joel Embiid beef

Drummond signing brings back memories of beef with Embiid originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

The Sixers reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with Andre Drummond on Tuesday, an unexpected move to find a backup center from President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey.

Drummond feels like an odd fit after Morey stressed the importance of finding a flexible big to play backup center, though we’ll see what the team has in mind. But the really strange fit seems like more of a chemistry question, because Drummond and Sixer superstar Joel Embiid have some hilariously contentious history with one another dating all the way back to 2018.

Allow me to jog your memory.

The beef started way back in 2017, when Embiid got the better of Drummond for the second time that season. He scored 25 to Drummond’s 14 and managed to get Drummond to foul out, at which point he

Joel Embiid, Doc Rivers don’t sound confident in Ben Simmons

Ben Simmons had a chance to redeem himself on Sunday at the end of a series noted for his offensive stagnation.

He did not.

The Philadelphia 76ers point guard posted his fourth single-digit scoring effort of the Eastern Conference semifinals and again not only looked unable to shoot the ball, but unwilling. His five-point, 13-assist, eight-rebound effort arrived as the Atlanta Hawks completed a stunning upset in seven games to topple the top-seeded 76ers and advance to the conference finals against the Milwaukee Bucks.

While Simmons’ box score met the usual criteria cited by advocates who point to his defense, playmaking and rebounding as more than enough to overcome his shooting woes, the fact remains. Simmons is an All-Star guard who often can’t and frequently won’t shoot from the perimeter — and sometimes elsewhere.

Doc Rivers doesn’t know if Ben Simmons can lead a championship team

Blazers betting favorites to land Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons

Blazers betting favorites to land Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest

With the Sixers season ending unexpectedly in seven games to the upstart Hawks, the franchise once again faces questions regarding their future.

Whether it’s asking themselves if Doc Rivers is truly the right man for the job. Or going deeper and pondering if the duo of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid can truly win.

Following their home loss to the Hawks, when asked if Simmons could be the point guard on a championship team, Rivers’ answer deviated from prototypical coach-speak.

Coaches would usually still praise their players and defend them publicly regardless of the questions they receive, as Rivers did leading up to Game 7. But clearly, Simmons’ performance in their season-finale may have left the coach questioning many things.

Embiid also gave his thoughts on the loss, in a way that seemed to be

Sixers optimistic that Joel Embiid injury is not serious or long term

The Philadelphia 76ers have a lot of hope for their championship run in the 2021 playoffs. They are the No. 1 seed in the East and they have a 3-1 lead over the Washington Wizards in Round 1 of the playoffs.

However, all of their hopes are centered around the play of their best player, superstar Joel Embiid.

The big fella took a hard fall in the team’s Game 4 loss to the Wizards and he had to leave the game with what the team is calling right knee soreness. With the series now shifting back to Philadelphia, Embiid is now listed as doubtful for Game 5 on Wednesday.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski did offer some encouraging news for Sixers fans as there is hope and optimism around him that the injury is not too serious or long-term.

Woj hopped on Sportscenter and reported this:

I’m told, largely, there’s optimism around
