Kirk Herbstreit has one-word message for Crimson Tide entering Mississippi State game

Alabama football aims to bounce back Saturday with the No. 5 Crimson Tide (5-1, 2-1 SEC) at Mississippi State for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff. The Week 7 game for Alabama follows a 41-38 loss in last Saturday at Texas A&M. Turning the page from Week 6 and entering the Bulldogs (3-2, 1-1), ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit shared a one-word message for the Tide.

“Simplify,” Herbstreit said Saturday morning on SportsCenter. “They looked like a very confused team last (week). Again, when you play a physically dominant team in college football, you can’t just line up and play football. Kirk Herbstreit seems less than excited about SEC expansion with Texas and Oklahoma

Former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit is one of the most prominent personalities in college football. Not only is he a former Buckeye, but he’s on the A-team of ESPN college football broadcasts and has a presence in the media that many pay attention to.

Of course, we pay attention a little more to Herbie as OSU fans, but generally speaking, when he talks, people listen. He very rarely dives into a pool of controversy, but when he does speak out, you feel like it’s a little more meaningful. Despite the polarizing view many have among Buckeye Nation, he is still well respected in the college football community.

And now, Herbstreit has spoken out about Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC and what it might mean for college football. And based on his comments, it appears as though Herbie isn’t exactly excited about the landscape of college football changing again.

Concerned Kirk Herbstreit on Texas, Oklahoma to SEC: ‘It’s no longer about tradition’

Kirk Herbstreit is concerned about the state of college football.

It isn’t so much that Texas and Oklahoma have both been invited and accepted invitations to join the SEC, it has more to do with that that represents.

Tradition and rivalries are what sets the college game apart from all other sports, the ESPN “College GameDay” analyst said. That, however, doesn’t appear to be a priority.

“I guess it’s our new world, our new reality,” Herbstreit said on SportsCenter. “I don’t know how you feel. I’m a bit of a traditionalist. I think when we did this realignment a few years ago and you saw teams like Nebraska leave and go to the Big Ten and Colorado leave. It was at that time we were thinking that Texas might leave and join the Big Ten or the Pac-12, and the Big 12 would have this same situation.

The college football landscape is changing in a hurry, and Kirk Herbstreit of ESPN’s College GameDay isn’t happy about it.

It’s official. The SEC will be expanding to include the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns, plucking the two powerhouses from the Big 12 in the process. Tradition has always played a integral part of what makes college football special, but money speaks louder.

Herbstreit echoed the same comments during an appearance on SportsCenter on Friday. He blasted the “decision-makers” for caring more about money than what makes college football special – tradition.
