South Dakota’s game-winning Hail Mary against South Dakota State has earned a nomination for Smooth Play of the Year at The Sports Illustrated Awards.

It’s the latest national nod for Coyotes quarterback Carson Camp’s 57-yard touchdown to Jeremiah Webb with just a second left on the clock. South Dakota football’s Hail Mary vs. SDSU leaves fans speechless

Anything’s possible in a rivalry game. Even a 57-yard Hail Mary to win the game as time expires.

That’s exactly what happened on Saturday as South Dakota football upset South Dakota State in the DakotaDome.

Camp’s game-winning throw gave South Dakota it’s second win in a row and seventh on the season. The Coyotes face North Dakota State next on Nov. 20 in their regular-season finale.

It’s the most such wins in a season since FCS teams pulled off nine of them in 2017. And they’re just getting started, perhaps benefitting from spring seasons that
