Kwity Paye Selected By The Colts In The First Round Of The 2021 NFL Draft

With the 21st pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected former Michigan Wolverines football defensive end Kwity Paye.

Paye is the sixth former Michigan player to be selected in the first round and 32nd player to be picked at any point since 2016 (head coach Jim Harbaugh‘s first draft as the head man).

Paye is the second edge defender off the board in this year’s draft, behind former Miami (Fla.) edge Jaelen Phillips, who was taken by the Miami Dolphins with the No. 18 pick.

“He is a physical specimen,” ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. said on the broadcast. “What he needs to be is coached up. He needs to develop a secondary move and get those sack numbers up.”

The Carolina Panthers made one of the biggest moves of the offseason when they traded for New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold.

Carolina traded for Darnold, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, with the idea that he could be their longterm answer at the quarterback position.

The Panthers gave up a sixth round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, plus a second and a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. That’s not a massive package, but it’s a lot to give up for someone.

Based on that trade, you would think the Panthers are not among the teams to be considering a quarterback in Round 1. However, Carolina will reportedly “consider” Justin Fields if he’s there at No. 8 overall.

“From what I’m hearing, they would consider it,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said on

As the New Orleans Saints seek a long-term replacement for Drew Brees, one quarterback in the 2021 NFL draft class has reportedly caught their eye.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Saturday on SportsCenter that the Saints “like” Florida’s Kyle Trask.

The Saints currently have the 28th pick in the first round. It seems unlikely they would be able to move up far enough to select one of the top five quarterbacks in this class, especially if three of them are off the board after the first three picks are made.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. has Trask ranked as the sixth-best quarterback this year, behind Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, Mac Jones and Trey Lance.

In Todd McShay‘s most recent mock draft released Thursday on ESPN.com, the Chicago Bears selected Trask in the second round with the 52nd pick.

McShay notes that Trask has “great touch and
