Cowboys Rumors: Dallas Linked to Record-Setting WKU QB Bailey Zappe

The Dallas Cowboys are doing their due diligence on adding some competition to the quarterback room behind Dak Prescott. The Cowboys interviewed record-setting Western Kentucky quarterback Bailey Zappe during the NFL Combine.

“I met with them [Cowboys], informal meetings, but it was awesome to be able to just answer questions,” Zappe explained during his March 2 press conference. “Get to build relationships, get to meet some of those coaches, get to meet some of the scouts. It was a fun moment.”

Zappe broke the FBS records with both 5,967 yards and 62 touchdowns during the 2021 season. The previous records were 5,845 yards and 61 touchdowns, per ESPN.

DALLAS – We have to go all the way back to the early days of Dirk Nowitzki to recall a time when Dallas Mavericks fans wished for more coverage of the local NBA team.

“Why don’t they ever put our Mavs on ‘SportsCenter’?” we used to gripe.

We are experiencing advancement in that area, however. Of course, it takes the hiring of Jason Kidd as head coach to awaken the good people of Bristol. And, of course, when it comes to the core of the story, the good people of Bristol – led by Stephen A. Smith – are literally three months late to the story.

Jason Kidd Already Assembling Coaching Staff For Dallas Mavericks

Jason Kidd is by all accounts on the verge of being named the next head coach of the Dallas Mavericks. But he doesn’t need that move to be official to start planning for the new role.

According to ESPN, Kidd has “begun the early stages of assembling a coaching staff”. He is currently an assistant coach on the Los Angeles Lakers, so it’s very possible he brings some of his coworkers along with him.

Kidd had a number of assistants during his stints with the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks that he could reunite with in Dallas. Greg Foster, Josh Oppenheimer, Joe Prunty and Stacey Augmon are just a few.

Kidd last coached an NBA game in January 2018 with the Milwaukee Bucks. He was fired after a 23-22 start to the 2017-18 season.
