ESPN Announces Contract News For Chris Berman

On the same day longtime SportsCenter anchor Kenny Mayne announced he was leaving the Worldwide Leader, ESPN announced new contract news for Chris Berman.

Berman has agreed to a multi-year extension with ESPN, the network announced on Monday. He’ll continue appearing on NFL PrimeTime, SportsCenter and other various programs in coming years.

“Legendary sports commentator and industry innovator Chris Berman has reached a new multi-year agreement with ESPN, it was announced today, on the occasion of Berman’s 66th birthday, by Norby Williamson, ESPN executive vice president and executive editor,” wrote Allie Stoneberg via ESPN Press Room. “Berman, who joined ESPN a month after its September 7, 1979 launch, will continue to bring his uniquely energetic and passionate style to various high-profile assignments.”

While the Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly “happy” with Derek Carr as their starting quarterback, Aaron Rodgers is reportedly “intrigued” by the idea of playing for the franchise.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said Sunday on SportsCenter that Las Vegas could be a destination for the disgruntled league MVP:

“[Aaron Rodgers] is reportedly intrigued by the Raiders as well, so they have to be on this list. They’re happy with Derek Carr; nothing’s going on right now, and they very well could extend Derek Carr sometime soon. But the Raiders look into every single quarterback situation. … They looked at past free agents or trade options. So, Jon Gruden is sort of always lurking. You can’t discount them.”

Fowler went on to say the Raiders also heavily scouted Trey Lance before the 2021 NFL draft. Lance went No. 3 overall to the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers reiterated Friday on SportsCenter that his future with the team is not in his control.

Speaking to Kenny Mayne about ending his career with Green Bay, Rodgers said, “I don’t know that a lot of that’s in my hands.”
