Kentucky Class 4A high school football preseason poll for 2021

Editor’s Note: This is the fourth in a series of stories ranking Kentucky’s high school football teams class by class, according to voting by the class’s coaches.

It didn’t take long for Coach Justin Haddix to adjust to the high expectations that go along with leading the storied Boyle County football program in Title Town.

The first-year coach led the Rebels to their ninth state championship.

And, guess what? Boyle County comes into 2021 ranked as Class 4A’s No. 1 team, according to coaches responding to the @HLpreps Preseason Football Survey. Boyle County received 19 of the 26 No. 1 votes cast.

There are plenty of contenders who have other ideas. Johnson Central got three No. 1 nods and is always a threat. Franklin County, last year’s runner-up, and Lexington Catholic got two No. 1 votes each.

Here are the preseason top 10 teams in the Kentucky High School Athletic

Baker Mayfield could be first QB of his draft class to get new deal

While Nick Chubb and Wyatt Teller have their contracts expiring at the end of the season, Baker Mayfield’s extension is the most important for the Cleveland Browns.

Denzel Ward joins Mayfield, Chubb and Teller as the four big extensions need among the Browns long list of upcoming free agents.

Mayfield’s situation is cluttered by the other quarterbacks in his class also seeking extensions. Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen are in the same boat as the Browns quarterback after being drafted in the first round as well. Mayfield, as the top pick in the 2018 NFL draft, has had to deal with a ton of turnover and instability in Cleveland while Jackson and Allen have been well supported by their organizations since their rookie season.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Mayfield’s deal could be the first done of the three big quarterbacks from their draft class:
