Unforgettable tribute to his mom by Red Bank Catholic QB Alex Brown the day after she died

It was a performance for the ages in the most emotional moment imaginable.

A day after Red Bank Catholic quarterback Alex Brown lost his mom Michelle after her 15-year battle with breast cancer, he came through with an unforgettable tribute for his biggest fan Friday night at Count Basie Field.

“There was never a doubt in my mind I was playing,” Brown said. “That’s how she wanted it. I talked to my dad and I said, ‘I want to play for mom and make a special memory,’ and that’s what happened.”

It certainly did. Brown generated eight touchdowns – throwing six TD passes and running for two more scores – in a 58-34 victory over Morris Catholic in an NJSIAA Non-Public B playoff game in Red Bank.

Bosse wins in 3 OTs against Catholic boys | Sports

Evansville Bosse and Owensboro Catholic put on one of the best high school basketball games of the season in either locale.

Bosse got a driving layup from Matthew Wagner that left his hand just before the final buzzer to lift the Bulldogs to an 82-80 win at the Sportscenter.

Bosse is 14-0 and ranked No. 2 in Class 3-A in Indiana.

Two free throws by Luke Scales tied the game at 80 with 3.5 seconds left, then came Wagner’s run down the court.

“It was just a great high school basketball game,” Catholic coach Tim Riley said. “It’s one of the best regular season games I’ve ever been involved with. You build on this. You’d love to win that game. But, now if our kids don’t understand, we’ve got a good basketball team and we need to build off this.”
