Longtime SportsCenter Anchor Has Landed A New Job

Longtime SportsCenter anchor Neil Everett is going to be a busy man this upcoming NBA season.

Everett, 59, has landed a new job in the NBA world. He’s been hired by the Portland Trail Blazers to provide pre-, half- and post-game coverage for “most” road games this upcoming season.

“The Portland Trail Blazers announced today the addition of Neil Everett to the broadcast team starting in the 2021-22 season,” the team announced via NBA.com. “Everett will be Television Studio Host for pre, half and post-game coverage for most Trail Blazers road games.”

Everett has strong ties to the Pacific Northwest. He’s a University of Oregon alum and grew up in Spokane, Wash.

He’s clearly excited about his new opportunity.

ESPN SportsCenter Anchor Sage Steele Tests Positive for Covid-19, Removed From Airwaves

Longtime ESPN anchor Sage Steele reportedly has tested positive for Covid-19, and has also been removed from the network’s airwaves for at least a week.

This, according to the sports business news site Front Office Sports.

Steele, who hosts the Noon ET edition of SportsCenter these days, will also reportedly not participate in the espnW: Women + Sports Summit, which takes place Oct. 18-20.

Steele ignited controversy recently during an appearance on The Uncut with Jay Cutler podcast. She openly objected to the “sick and scary” mandate that all Walt Disney Company staffers be vaccinated by Sept. 30. She is vaccinated, however, expressing a desire to keep her job at the company.

UGA basketball hire has connection to ESPN anchor, football assistant

Georgia officially announced the hire of a new assistant basketball coach on Thursday, prompting two fellow New Orleans natives to go on social media to celebrate Wade Mason’s move.

ESPN SportsCenter anchor Stan Verrett and Georgia wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton took to Twitter to recognize Mason, who spent the past five seasons on the Stephen F. Austin staff.

“Proud of you, man!” Verrett wrote.

“Purple Knights in the building! Welcome brother @wmason1409!!! #GoDawgs,” Hankton said.

Mason played on St. Augustine High’s 1995 USA Today national championship basketball team. Verrett and Hankton also graduated from St. Augustine.

Mason will be paid a $260,000 base salary annually effective last Friday, according to an open records request. Chad Dollar, who was making $300,000 a year, left last month for a similar job at Cincinnati.

Sportscaster Brian Custer to anchor ESPN’s ‘SportsCenter’

“It’s always been a professional goal to anchor an iconic show like SportsCenter and call games for ESPN,” said Custer.

Brian Custer, a former Fox Sports play-by-play announcer, has joined ESPN according to a statement from the network.

Custer is an Emmy Award-winning TV personality and will be an anchor for SportsCenter, ESPN’s news and information program. He will also begin to call college sports in the fall.
