South Carolina football adds Jacksonville State to finalize 2023 nonconference games

COLUMBIA – First ever battle of the Gamecocks is coming to Williams-Brice Stadium in 2023.

South Carolina announced Wednesday the addition of Jacksonville State to its 2023 schedule, filling its fourth and final non-conference date that season. The Gamecocks will host the Gamecocks on Nov. 4, 2023.

USC opens 2023 with a neutral site game against North Carolina in Charlotte on Sept. 2 and hosts instate FCS foe Furman the following week. The Gamecocks round out its non-conference slate with the annual Palmetto Bowl showdown at rival Clemson on Nov. 25.

Jacksonville State competes on the FCS level in the Atlantic Sun Conference but in summer of 2023, it will make the jump to FBS and join Conference USA.

South Carolina is now one of three non-conference games for JSU’s first season in FBS along with FCS teams Kennesaw State and Chattanooga.

USC’s 2023 schedule had previously been complete but Liberty had to pull out of the game at South Carolina as it is moving from Independent to Conference USA. By joining C-USA, the Flames needed to open up games to have enough space for all eight league contests starting in 2023, resulting in South Carolina searching for another game.
