Cam Newton is opening up about his release by the New England Patriots.

Heading into Week 1, the Patriots decided to release the veteran quarterback, naming rookie Mac Jones the team’s starting quarterback.

Newton recently gave a brutally honest admission on his release.

“Let me be honest with you… if they would’ve asked me, if they said, ‘Cam, we’re going to give the team to Mac, you’re going to be the second string. We expect you to be everything and some to help guide him through this tenure’ — I would’ve said, ‘Absolutely,’” Newton said in his latest YouTube video.

“The truth of the matter is, this — [Mac] would have been uncomfortable.”

The NFL world appreciates the honesty. However, fans are skeptical of the opinion.

“Mac waited 3 years to take over the throne at Bama without an ounce of complaining and went out and put up one of the best seasons in college history. Dude is a consummate professional and does nothing but win. Good luck in your next endevour Cam but we good with Mac,” one fan tweeted.

“Cam’s not wrong tho, having a star as big as Cam who is loved by everyone in the locker room would’ve been horrible for Mac and the team,” another fan added.

“A lot of people hurt that Cam isn’t the one to just roll over and let other people’s judgements get him down. The man got cut by the Pats and they still follow him to leave negative comments like some hounds. Focus on Mac, that’s y’all QB right? Cam is Good. Millionaire Good!” another fan added.

There were some other comments, too…

Regardless of the real truth, Jones is the Patriots’ starting quarterback, while Newton remains without an NFL team.

Jones and the Patriots will open the 2021 season on Sunday against the Dolphins.
