Kayla Karius named South Dakota women’s basketball head coach
Kayla Karius will be the next head women’s basketball coach at the University of South Dakota, USD announced in a news release Sunday evening.
Karius will be introduced during a news conference Monday at 11 a.m. in Vermillion. The event is open to the public and will be streamed on social media.
Karius, who spent the last season as an assistant at Drake, was an assistant for the first two seasons of former head coach Dawn Plitzuweit’s tenure at USD. Karius played a big role in the recruiting effort that netted the Coyotes a class that featured Chloe Lamb, Liv Korngable, Monica Arens and then-New Mexico transfer Hannah Sjerven.
After leaving USD, Karius spent three years as an assistant at Wisconsin, working her way up to the role of associate head coach and recruiting coordinator before taking a job at Drake last season.
