Greg Popovich thinks the Kings will get even better

Sacramento, CA – Things continue to get better for Mike Brown and the Sacramento Kings. After destroying Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets, the Sacramento Kings got off to another quick start Thursday night against the San Antonio Spurs. The red-hot Kings started the game with a 37-point first quarter that was full of excitement and highlights. The team’s high level of play has been led by De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis.

The Kings are 8-2 in their last ten games, and if a few calls went their way, their record could be even better. After taking down Greg Popovich’s squad, the legendary coach reiterated that idea.

Greg Popovich

“Well, I think they would’ve had a better start if they would’ve had a little bit of good fortune in a couple of those games,” Popovich told Sideline Sources. “The pace they play at is really tough to guard, and they’re physical on defense. They’re just a better basketball team, and they’re really buying into what Mike is trying to do. I think that they’re just going to get better and better.”

The Kings have gained a victory in their last five games and have a record of 8-6 this season. Although the Spurs coach acknowledged their record should be better, the Kings aren’t focused on that at all.

First-year Kings guard Malik Monk shared his thoughts on the lost opportunities before this run started.

“We can’t think about that,” Monk said. “We got a game on Sunday, and that’s the game we’re focusing on right now. It’s always the next game. If we dwell on the past, it’s going to way on you, and you can’t move on.”

The Spurs kept things competitive for most of the night, but the Kings were in full control. Fox scored 28 points on 11-of-15 shooting, and his college running mate, from Kentucky Monk, added 26 points off the bench. The Kings cruised to a 130-112 victory.

Next, the Kings will face the Detroit Pistons as they attempt to better their record again. Keeping this win streak alive could be huge down the road. It could be the run that propels them into the postseason for the first time in over a decade.
