The Bradley women’s basketball team earned a moment in the national spotlight this weekend.
Freshman Caroline Waite hit an off-balance 3-pointer Sunday in BU’s 77-67 Missouri Valley Conference home victory over Evansville. The shot went on to be featured Sunday night and Monday morning on ESPN SportsCenter Top Plays countdown. The shot came in at No. 10 in the countdown, kicking off the clip.
“Who doesn’t love the Valley?,” the ESPN anchor said. “Caroline Waite throws it up there … a little left-handed floater from 3. C’mon now!”
In the clip, the right-handed shooter beat the shot clock with her left-handed heave from the left wing in front of the Bradley bench at Renaissance Coliseum in Peoria. It is the second impressive buzzer-beater she hit this week after sinking a 35-foot transition 3-pointer Friday against Indiana State.
Waite on Monday also was named MVC Newcomer of the Week for the second time. She averaged 22.5 points against Indiana State and Evansville. The Iowa native is the highest scoring underclassman in the Valley at 12.6 points per game.
Waite and the Braves will be on the road this week, visiting Valparaiso at 6 p.m. Thursday and Loyola Chicago at 1 p.m. Saturday.
