Edu hatches new £43m + player January plan to secure deal for midfield powerhouse to boost title bid

According to sources, Arsenal director Edu is getting ready to intensify his pursuit of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic during the forthcoming January transfer window. For a number of years, the Gunners have been said to be interested in signing Milinkovic-Savic, and they reportedly plan to make a move when the market reopens at the beginning of the year.

Lazio apparently made the Serbian playmaker available over the summer, but he ultimately decided to stay with the team. Since the season’s start, he has contributed seven assists in 11 league games.

Arsenal is reportedly one of the clubs keeping a close eye on the situation, but he is still being discussed in connection with a move elsewhere in January.

Given that Lazio president Claudio Lotito recently claimed that Milinkovic-Savic will only be allowed to leave in exchange for a nine-figure price, it appears that any successful trade will probably cost the Gunners a considerable sum of money. However, people in charge at the Emirates Stadium have come up with a brilliant method to lure the footballer to north London without offering him a high-stakes contract.

Calciomercato reports that Edu is seeking to negotiate a player-plus-cash trade in which Albert Sambi Lokonga will transfer in the opposite direction.

The latter moved to Arsenal from Anderlecht last summer, but Mikel Arteta has only started him twice since the season began, making it difficult for him to maintain a regular spot in the first team.

According to rumors, Arsenal would ‘do anything’ to sign Milinkovic-Savic in January, even if that meant giving Lokonga in exchange for a transfer fee of over £43 million. It is unclear whether this would be sufficient to persuade Lazio to sell, as the Italian team is unlikely to be eager to part ways with Milinkovic-Savic in the middle of the campaign.

The 27-year-commanding old’s presence and depth of elite experience would make him a wise signing for Arsenal, who will be trying to remain strong at the conclusion of the season to earn a long-awaited return to the Champions League the following year. Paul Merson, a club veteran, recently pushed the Gunners to intensify their interest in the player, stating that he thought Milinkovic-Savic was the best midfielder currently playing in Serie A.

Arsenal needs a premier midfielder more than ever to compete with the best, according to Merson’s Daily Star piece. And Savic, in my opinion, is a gorgeous player who ranks among the best.

“Based on how he performed for Lazio last season, in my opinion, he is the best midfielder in Italy. I’m aware that Manchester United has previously been linked with him, but I don’t understand why more clubs aren’t waiting in line to sign the Serbian. Many clubs, in my opinion, are missing a trick.
