The Las Vegas Raiders have struggled to get reliable production out of their wide receivers in recent years and have undergone numerous shake-ups at the position since Jon Gruden took over as head coach in 2018. Each and every season, the coaching staff expresses confidence in the group, but ultimately the team’s pass-catching unit has been somewhat of a letdown as of late.

Headed into 2021, the Raiders are once again touting their wide receivers, but this year, they have a key vote of confidence from their starting quarterback.

Derek Carr expressed that he has the utmost faith in his receivers going into this season . He shared that he plans to throw the football all over the field and trust his teammates to go out and make plays.

“I have a group of wideouts that I trust, that when I drop back, I’m going to throw the ball up to them,” Carr said, via Paul Gutierrez of ESPN. “And I told them, ‘It’s up to you if you want to make SportsCenter or not. I’m going to throw it to you because you guys have the talent and the ability to go make these plays.’”

Carr will have a mixture of young and experienced wideouts at his disposal this fall. The receivers group is highlighted by second-year players Henry Ruggs III and Bryan Edwards, but veterans Hunter Renfrow, Zay Jones and Will Snead IV will provide the Raiders with some important depth at the position.

Even with some struggles at receiver last year, Carr managed to throw for 4,108 yards and 27 touchdowns. Much of that was due to the emergence of star tight end Darren Waller, but the three-time Pro Bowl quarterback proved that he can still have success with lackluster production on the outside.

Still, the Raiders hope that Carr won’t have to deal with issues at receiver in 2021. Only time will tell if the team’s pass-catchers are up for the task.
