All fantasy teams have a hierarchy of player calibers, with a set of “best players” surrounded by a cast of lesser but still productive players from which to draw your weekly starting lineup.

N.C.A.A. Women’s Basketball Tournament Will Be Held in Texas

The pinnacle of this coronavirus pandemic-disrupted women’s college basketball season — the national tournament for Division I teams — will be contested entirely in Texas, the N.C.A.A. said Friday.

The association, which had already planned to hold the Final Four of the women’s tournament in San Antonio, said that it would use five venues for the competition’s 63 games. In addition to San Antonio, games will be played in two cities just up Interstate 35, Austin and San Marcos.

“Like the 2020-21 season, we know the championship will have its challenges, but we feel we have the necessary structure and safeguards in place to ensure a quality student-athlete championship experience,” Nina King, a top athletics official at Duke who also leads the N.C.A.A.’s Division I women’s basketball committee, said in a statement.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg of San Antonio said officials would “deliver the best, safest and most memorable experience possible,”

Nate Oats on Alabama Basketball’s Projected No. 1 Seed: “To Dwell on that Today is Probably Distracting”

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — It’s not too often that Alabama basketball is a projected No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. In fact, being a No. 1 seed come March Madness has never happened in the history of Crimson Tide basketball.

For Alabama, the highest it has ever been seeded in the Big Dance is No. 2, which has happened on two occasions. The first time it occurred in 1987 under former coach Wimp Sanderson. The team ultimately reached the Sweet 16 before it was ousted by No. 6-seed Providence, 103-82.

The second time it happened was in 2002 under former coach Mark Gottfried. Despite being a No. 2 seed and one of the best teams in the country, the Crimson Tide was upset in the second round 71-58 by No. 10-seed Kent State.

NCAA women’s basketball tournament to be held in San Antonio

The San Antonio area will host the full NCAA women's basketball tournament.

The San Antonio region will host the entire NCAA women’s basketball tournament.

The move Friday was made to help mitigate the risks of COVID-19 and matches that of the men’s tournament, which the NCAA said last month will be played in the Indianapolis area.

The tournament will still feature 64 teams and will run from March 21 through April 4. The NCAA will use five sites for the opening round, including the University of Texas, which is 80 miles from San Antonio, as a venue.

The Alamodome will host games for every round, with two courts in use at the building. The Sweet 16, Elite Eight and Final Four will be played there as well as the national championship.

No decision has been made yet on whether fans can attend.
