Coach K’s farewell tour: No. 1 seed Duke survives ACC Tournament quarterfinal test from Syracuse

Duke nearly went one-and-done at the ACC Tournament on Thursday in its final appearance in the event under coach Mike Krzyzewski. In the end, though, the No. 1 seed Blue Devils used a late surge to beat No. 9 seed Syracuse 88-79 and advance to Friday’s semifinals. They will play the winner of Thursday afternoon’s game between No. 4 seed Miami and No. 13 seed Boston College.

Syracuse showed once again that Duke has some issues to shore up defensively before the NCAA Tournament begins next week. After allowing 94 points against North Carolina in a home loss to end the regular season, the Blue Devils allowed Syracuse forward Jimmy Boeheim to go off for 28 points on Thursday.

The Orange led 40-36 at halftime and rallied late in the second half a 79-78 lead at the 3:32 mark before fading in the end amid a one-game suspension for star

Prized rookie Jalen Green built on his recent momentum with a career-high 32 points on Wednesday, leading his Houston Rockets to a thrilling 139-130 (box score) win over LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. Meanwhile, fellow first-round rookie Alperen Sengun added 21 points and 14 rebounds, which were both career-highs. Sengun started for the Rockets in place of veteran Christian Wood, who missed his second straight game with an illness, and played a career-high 40 minutes.

Rookie guard Josh Christopher, who was the fourth of Houston’s four first-round picks in 2021, excelled off the bench with 21 points and 6 rebounds in 23 minutes. As with Green, Christopher was extremely

Northeast Conference championship game between Bryant and Wagner delayed after fight breaks out in stands

The Northeast Conference men’s championship game between Bryant and Wagner was significantly delayed during the second half Tuesday night after a large fight broke out in the stands behind the Wagner bench.

The game, at Bryant’s Chace Athletic Center in Smithfield, Rhode Island, came to a standstill for around 30 minutes after the skirmish broke out during a timeout with the Bulldogs leading 68-32 with 4:37 to go.

The fight appeared to be between visiting Wagner fans and Bryant fans. Several Wagner players had to be restrained, but none of them appeared to make it into the stands. Wagner’s Will Martinez tried, though, and was the only player ejected in the incident.

Bryant athletic director Bill Smith grabbed the mic after some order was restored, laying out ground rules for the postgame. He said Wagner players would have to leave the court before fans rushed it.
