Aaron Rodgers Tells Kenny Mayne Why He’s Upset With Packers
For the first time since all the rumors about his frustration with the Green Bay Packers surfaced, Aaron Rodgers revealed why he’s currently unhappy with the franchise that drafted him in 2005.
Rodgers was on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Monday night for Kenny Mayne’s final show. During his interview with Mayne, the three-time MVP discussed his standoff with the Packers.
Contrary to popular belief, Rodgers said that his frustration with the Packers is not about the front office’s decision to draft Jordan Love last year. Instead, his problem is with the way certain people inside the organization have handled things.
“With my situation, look it’s never been about the draft pick, picking Jordan,” Rodgers told Mayne, via ESPN. “I love Jordan; he’s a great kid. [We’ve had] a lot of fun to work together. Love the coaching staff, love my teammates, love the fan base in Green Bay. An incredible 16 years. It’s just kind of about a philosophy and maybe forgetting that it is about the people that make the thing go. It’s about character, it’s about culture, it’s about doing things the right way.”
Though he didn’t explicitly say it, Rodgers is most likely talking about Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst. ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported in April that Rodgers’ beef is with Gutekunst and others in the front office.
Rodgers believes the current regime has lot their way just a bit.
“I think sometimes people forget what really makes an organization. History is important, legacy of so many people who’ve come before you. But the people, that’s the most important thing. People make an organization, people make a business and sometimes that gets forgotten. Culture is built brick by brick, the foundation of it by the people, not by the organization, not by the building, not by the corporation. It’s built by the people.”
Until the Packers fix their fractured relationship with Rodgers, this storyline will dominate headlines.
