Dairon Asprilla, take a bow.
The Portland Timbers forward submitted a late entry for Major League Soccer’s goal of the year with an amazing, must-see bicycle kick goal from outside the 18-yard box against the stunned San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday night.
The frenetic play started when Earthquakes goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski spilled the ball and Asprilla was able to recover the rebound. With Marcinkowski well outside of the goalmouth, Asprilla took the rebound and launched the ball over the goalkeeper’s head and in for an incredible goal.
Asprilla’s goal conveniently occurred right in front of Portland’s famed supporters’ section, the Timbers Army, and Asprilla sprinted over to share his celebration with the boisterous fans. He was presented with a yellow card for an excessive celebration. It was totally worth it.
