Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso: Grade It!

Ted Lasso isn’t the first series based on a character from a TV commercial — anyone else still haunted by ABC’s Cavemen? Or CBS’ Baby Bob? — but it might be the first good one.

The new Apple TV+ comedy, which hails from series star Jason Sudeikis and Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence, is based on a series of promotional videos for NBC Sports that aired in 2013. Seven years later, the Saturday Night Live vet reprises his role as an American football coach who is hired to manage an English soccer — err, football team… despite having zero soccer — err, football coaching experience. Its first three episodes dropped on Friday.

Jimmy Butler takes on Chris Paul after incident with Duncan Robinson

Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler was called for a pretty blatant offensive foul after charging into Chris Paul during their 116-115 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night.

Turns out, he did that on purpose.

He was defending Duncan Robinson.

Chris Paul throws ball off Duncan Robinson

Robinson and Paul were matched up late in the second quarter, and were fighting for a ball in the corner.

Paul ended up ripping the ball away from Robinson but started losing his balance as he did so, and was going to fall out of bounds. Before he did, he threw the ball of of Robinson and out of bounds — a smart basketball play that gave his team the possession.

That, though, didn’t sit well with Butler.

The next time down the court, Butler drove right at Paul and blatantly extended his arm to knock him down.

Instantly, he was

Luka Doncic posts career nights in Mavericks win vs. Bucks

Two years ago, Luka Doncic entered the NBA and immediately started making everyone who doubted his ceiling look foolish.

By next June, he was the NBA Rookie of the Year and by the February after, he was his team’s all-time leader in triple-doubles. Entering Saturday, he had averaged 24.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game in his short career. It should not be controversial to say those are the numbers of a superstar, and that Doncic is already one of the 10 (maybe five?) best basketball players on Earth.

And yet, watching Doncic, it’s beginning to feel like we are only watching the first phase of a multistage rocket hurtling toward inner-circle Hall of Fame status. That was likely true before the NBA was put on forced hiatus, but it was never more evident than on Saturday against the team with the best record in basketball.
